Wind bites through my skin – white-capped teeth off winter seas. Sand whips and tastes of banishment. Umbilical prisoner, I walk bleak Eden. Rain breaks covenant, floods, waterboards my knowledge of good and evil.

Love your tie to “The Garden” …. beautifully executed.

This is exceptional! Epic allusions and torture; “Umbilical prisoner,” – all of it is top shelf.

Your own personal Elba… only not so temperate; a mea culpa morning walk along the purging sand. Great stuff, Randall!

Thanks! I will think intemperate thoughts of Elba tomorrow on my walk, and plan my escape. But I need one of those cool Napoleon hats.

We’ve come along way since the garden of Eden, now we walk the bleakness of our own making. The fruit has tempted mankind since the very beginning but, I hope we can plant new seeds of hope.

The “white-capped teeth” connecting to both biting wind and winter seas is genius! What a powerful metaphor in just a few lines. The whole poem is packed with thought-provoking comparisons and allusions. Truly fascinating.

Wow. How stunning and stimulating:
“Umbilical prisoner,
I walk bleak Eden.
Rain breaks covenant,
floods, waterboards
my knowledge
of good and evil.”
