“A violent windstorm the night before the solstice.”
– Jim Harrison
Not all the sun of yesterday’s solstice
could cauterize my dreaming
The longest day not long enough,
its rays not strong and twined enough
To bind and wind and stanch
night’s happy wound
You are right the days are not long enough! Wonderfully expressed! ❤

You are welcome, but now I have to write a Haibun about when I last wore a bikini??

Yes, that is the exact prompt. Have at it. LOL!
(Actually, go with regional Kigo or something as unconventional as that.)

Wait, now I think the prompt is “Misery’s Caravan”. I got this.

‘night’s happy wound’ – unique! the normal associations with darkness gone topsy-turvy p.s. only know stanch as staunch

Thanks! I wonder if stanch/staunch are regional differences. I tend to hear staunch as the adjective “loyal”, not the verb.

I’m a staunch believer in staunching wounds to stop the blood

I love that image and sensation, a cauterized dream. This poem shows the unbridgeable between the conscious and subconscious.

Finally getting to some reading… The title of this is a show-stopping contrast to all the images of injury. I’ve read it about 10 times and still feel it more than get it – the quality of dreams carries.

Thanks. Yes, I tried to bookend the title and the “happy wound” to make that contrast. Then make sunlight the aggressor or such. Or at least I think that is what is happening.

And there was I thinking this was about sex.

Hmm. Maybe it could be about sex too, hadn’t thought of that!

When night bleeds, it’s daylight that turns it from black to red. Fantastic Sanguine poem. One of my favorites.
