Salt Cod

A lifetime of trawling cod
from the Gulf of Maine –
a fisherman I knew

Would spray WD-40 on his knees.
Even better than motor oil he said –
and rub it in deep into the joints.

Gotta get some swing
back in the
hinges,

He said.
The body not a door
that closes with age,

But a boom that
sweeps and hauls out
over the waves

Year after year.
Close to the salt
but not of it.

  1. I love this poetic feel.

And these lines: “a fisherman I knew
Would spray WD-40 on his knees.
Even better than motor oil he said –
and rub it in deep into the joints.”

Believe it or not, and this is a true story. My older brother had this crazy insane idea of putting WD-40 on joint pains. He convince my own dad to try it on his own legs because my dad suffers from joint pain. He did so, and my dad felt more pain and his whole leg felt irritated and my dad was upset and mad. My brother tried it on himself as so he claims nothing happen to him. hahahahaha!!! My brother is an idiot. I don’t know where he got that idea of curing someone from joint pain by using WD-40. Anyway, all in all…I love this whole entire poetic narrative. 🙂
