Pat Sajak Spins the Dreamcatcher

Pat Sajak spins the Dreamcatcher –
God egging him on, what the hell,
who can never get enough of playing dice
with the universe,
the Wheel of Fortune stutters

Broken Faith
Delicious Kisses
Imagined Truths
Death & Taxes

Because it isn’t a dream at all,
life is scrambled like a channel clicking
through the Shopping Network
and CSI Miami
except it’s a losing game of hangman –
Let’s Make a Deal –
the Devil holds sway

Because that was always
how it was going to end –
Vanna’s not going to save us,
descend like an Archangel
in a technicolor dream coat,
hair like wings of fire –

The letters turn one by one
and spell our fate.

  1. I can truthfully say that I have never once watched Wheel of Fortune. I *have* watched a boatload of CSI Miami, though–I love the team, especially Horatio. Anyway, cheer up, there is always baseball. Not the first time God has shown a penchant for gambling–just ask Job. The (Big) Guy is probably wagering his last dime on some stupid parlay on FanDuel, No wonder those players point at the sky every time they hit a bloop single. The Universe is riding on whether Jose Altuve steals a base tonight or not.

  2. Interesting trivia: Sajak served in the U.S. Army as a disc jockey during the Vietnam War for American Forces Vietnam Network. He hosted the same Dawn Buster radio show that Adrian Cronauer had, and for 14 months, followed Cronauer’s tradition of signing on with “Good Morning Vietnam!”

Who knows where that knowledge might have led you?
