Doctor F., slip-sliding blood, stents in the wrong heart –
all pig parts now – and I am a wild boar, snorting and rutting –

Then new eyes, eagle-twitched with talon lust, I’m a bird 
lifting the gurney, arms and elbows reconstructing flight  –

What else could I expect after my wife and the nurse 
played tic-tac-toe with a sharpie on my neck and back,

the locations of incision marked for winning and losing –
Lord! My organ donor is the Mormon Tabernacle! Where go all 

those pipes! Staves for vocal chords, Bach pulling my nose stops, 
Toccata and Fugue I arise, Oh Creature, and know my aloneness 

for the first time. And yet… I am large, I contain multitudes, 
the pull of zoötic moons, monstrosity a begetting, like gravity

  1. Wow, you have described this brilliantly. The powerful images of “eagle-twitched with talon lust” and the arms and elbows reconstructing flight are so powerful. I most love “I am large, I contain multitudes.” Such amazing writing.

  2. Hey qbit, the imagery here is incredible but I’m not confident that I understand it enough to make an intelligent remark. This stanza is total magic: “Then new eyes, eagle-twitched with talon lust, I’m a bird / lifting the gurney, arms and elbows reconstructing flight –”.

  3. omG! I was confused if there was a theme here or not, but once you got to the MTC this thing did grow wings! Transformed into a bizarre hybrid human/pipe organ! Shades of Corso! Shine on you crazy mutant!
