So it’s God shooting marbles again
with one blue and green
cat’s eye
sighting in the ring,
that glassy stare
playing us
for keeps.
Gotta knuckle down,
a steely spoiler
coming in like a comet,
and hope God doesn’t play dice
with the Universe.
For dVerse Quadrille
Smiling I am. LOVE it! Oh God….let’s not get into a crap shoot! 🙂

My fear would be poker… aces and eights… in Deadwood. But then, I’d think God wouldn’t need to shave the deck. Great quadrille, Mr. q! Food for thought. Food for thought.

Nice lines: “playing us
for keeps.”

I agree, that line is brilliant, the heart on which this quadrille turns.

Great quadrille! That use of ‘again’ in the first line is key and applause for the color symbolism. (Doesn’t hurt that this takes me back to my favorite cat’s eye – orange as a tabby. Best one in the box.)

A great quad. But then Einstein neither believed in a God or quantum physics which is what he was referring to in this often misinterpreted quote.

Thanks. Yes, I was playing fast and loose. Hoping people recognized the echo of that phrase, but not enough to try and work it out. Especially since this poem seems to be at a solar level of macro scale, lol!

I haven’t played marbles since school so this use of ‘spoiler’ made me smile. The final lines reminded me of a book I read years ago, The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart (George Cockcroft).

Yes! The Dice Man! Nobody else I know has ever read that!

I actually think God plays craps… it would explain a lot.

I like God playing a game of skill, focusing in on… us. For keeps, for watchcare. A nice antithetical to what Einstein really meant in his famous quote. We just don’t always recognize his hand until it claims us. I really like this quadrille parable

Were you thinking of Cat’s Eye Nebula? How clever is that. Love the cosmic scope of thispoem and how it brought those greas NASA pictures beautifully to mind.

I don’t believe in God playing dice with us–but the memory of marbles from childhood was a sweet one

Understood. Glad it evoked a good memory. I had a pretty decent marble collection, but wasn’t so good at the game itself. Mostly I just liked looking at all my marbles.
