I grew up on Jasmine –
which should make for a poet
or maybe a florist,
or at least why I have allergies
We moved to Florence
but alas I could not find
the statue of David
anywhere behind the shrubs
I guess that’s the way of it –
there were never any groves on Grove
or luminous promises
on Pearl
Though I’ve hung the signs
“Life” and “Death” overhead
I hope you will forgive
this shabby poet’s corner
For Tuesday Poetics
I’ve just been reading some poets and I think this remind me of Phillip Larkin or someone contemporary to him? I don’t think it’s Seamus Heany.

Thanks! I thought it was written in the style of “Too Much Coffee,” but I’ll take Larkin for sure!

Perhaps you should have another cuppa? I’m about to put brandy into the one I boiled the kettle for. If a poem of sorts come out of it, so be it. If it doesn’t it’s Zen. So there!

Nicely wry. Whoever named those streets was a romantic. I like your journey.

I wonder if we become part of the street… my current street has the same name as myself… wonder what that would mean?

Ha… could be that.

You seem street wise too, as evidenced by this poem. Like the voice of it.

Nice suggestion that one might be disappointed with what one finds or doesn’t find on certain streets.

I live on The Street – does what it says on the packet! But I would love to live in a lane called Jasmine! What a shame to have allergies and not be able to smell the flowers – I’m inhaling honeysuckle as I type 🙂

That sounds wonderful! Making me want to sneeze, but worth the moment.

You wrote this in such a way that I hear the Randall poet voice, clear and uncluttered. Excellent.

Thank you so much. It did seem to have an ease to it that I liked. Appreciate that you picked up on that.

Q such fun! Street names or teas? Or a medley of both? Either way it made me laugh. Dry humor is my favorite.

50 poems tossed across a table, no names, and I’d easily scrall Q on this one. Every stanza is excellent!
